Berkshire Hathaway, the investment vehicle of billionaire philanthropist Warren Buffett, is among the top ten best stock market investments of all time, it has been claimed.

According to the list compiled by the Times, Berkshire Hathaway is the second best when it comes to stocks and shares options that went on to exceed all expectations.

Journalist Mark Atherton says the business has been "an outstanding moneyspinner for those who have signed up for the long-term ride".

Before Mr Buffett took over the enterprise, its share price stood at $7.56 (£3.82). Today it stands at around $112,000. As a result, anyone who purchased just nine shares in 1962 would now be a dollar millionaire, the newspaper claims.

Mr Buffett is believed to have a net fortune of $62 billion, according to Forbes.com. Last year, he said he would give £1 million to charity if a group of the richest people in America admitted they paid less tax, as a proportion of their income, than their secretaries.
