Workers feeling less secure

Workers feeling less secure

Workers from across the UK are feeling considerably less secure in their jobs now than was the case a year ago, it has been revealed.

According to data compiled by Lloyds TSB, only one in ten people feel more secure about their employment than they did 12 months ago, while more than 60 per cent felt their prospects have worsened.

Close to 2,000 people were polled as part of the study and most suggested that they were worried about the likelihood of rises in their everyday living costs.

Reflecting on the findings, stocks and shares expert from Lloyds TSB Trevor Williams said that the inflation fears and falling employment confidence could amount to a "lethal cocktail for consumer spending".

"If people don't feel safe in their job and high prices are putting incomes under pressure then demand for discretionary purchases will naturally slow," he said.

There was bad news for stock and shares and for the British economy last month when unemployment rose more sharply than it had since the early 1990s, according to the Office of National Statistics.
