"Good valuations" available in health sector

//
Healthcare could be the sector to keep an eye on during the recession, it has been claimed.

According to investment expert Sanjeev Shah, while the economic downturn has seen share prices tumble, stakes in some attractive companies are now available at very good valuations.

He commented: "A number of pharmaceutical companies were trading at very low valuations versus history and appeared more attractive than other defensives, such as food and beverages.

"They have done very well so far this year and I have started to take some profits."

In the last recession between 1990 and 1991, pharma and biotech companies gave the best returns of more than 40 per cent, according to easier.com.

The personal goods sector also fared well with returns rising to 35 per cent, while beverages increased by 27 per cent.
