Jobs woes grow as Santander announces job cull
//
As the recession continues to cast a shadow over the UK, people may be considering trying to earn some extra money by taking up stock market trading.

The news that yet more jobs are to be axed in the UK may come as an even greater incentive to attend a free stock market seminar.

Grupo Satander of Spain has announced it is to axe 1,900 jobs at its UK subsidiaries: Abbey, Alliance & Leicester and Bradford & Bingley.

Antonio Horta-Osorio, chief executive of the combined UK business, commented: "Today's announcement shows we are on track to fulfil the commitment we made at the time of the Alliance & Leicester acquisition to grow our UK business whilst ensuring we meet our cost-saving targets."

The cull of jobs is part of a series of measures designed at saving the group £180 million by the end of 2011.ADNFCR-1681-ID-18931126-ADNFCR
