Those concerned about job security may want to consider a free stock market seminar as the first step towards earning extra money by investing in stock.
Panasonic, which is the largest manufacturer of plasma screen TVs is the world, has warned shareholders that it will post an annual loss of 380 billion yen (£2.9 billion).
Hiromichi Shirakawa and Satoru Ogasawara of Credit Suisse commented: "It is now clear that the Japanese economy fell off a cliff in the final quarter of last year."
Official figures released last week show that industrial output in the country dropped by a record 9.6 per cent in December.
Meanwhile, computer maker NEC has said that up to 20,000 jobs will go, while Hitachi warned that 7,000 jobs are in danger of being axed, reports the Times newspaper.
