Unemployment in Organisation for Economic Co-ordination and Development (OECD) countries continued to rise during May, something that could mean more people are searching for ways to earn extra money.

According to figures from the OECD, the figure rose to 8.3 per cent for the month, an increase of 2.4 per cent year-on-year.

The jobless rate among European member countries climbed to 9.5 per cent - a rise of 0.2 per cent on April's figure.

UK jobless figures for May were unavailable, however data from March revealed a two per cent year-on-year rise, taking the figure to 7.2 per cent.

More up-to-date information regarding UK unemployment was recently released by the Office of National Statistics, which revealed that in the three months to April 2009 the number of workers without a job had risen to 2.26 million.
