According to Citywire, the benchmark index was up 58 points at 10:00 BST, taking it to 4,749 points.
Lonmin was one of the biggest gainers, jumping 51p to 1,435p as commodity prices increased.
Shares in Royal Bank of Scotland, Thomas Cook, Amec and Kingfisher all rose, while Legal & General saw an increase following continued speculation that Resolution may submit a takeover bid .
Joshua Raymond, market strategist at City Index, explained that sentiment has been boosted by rises on Asian markets, noting: "We have seen investors go back into the riskier assets after being scared away a little earlier in the week."
"The miners and financials are the main winners this morning," he remarked.
However, there were some falls, with AstraZeneca, Diageo and Capita among the firms that saw their share price decrease.
