FTSE 100 reaches one-year high

The FTSE 100 has hit a high of over a year during today's morning session of stock market trading.

According to Reuters, the index was up one per cent to 5,213.16 points at 10:25 BST, led by increases in energy companies.

The rising price of crude oil meant BP, Royal Dutch Shell, Tullow Oil and BG Group all climbed, while a report in the Sunday Telegraph that BG Group may be selling the majority of its power generation business for £1.5 billion also aided its share price.

However, gains on the FTSE were limited by mixed performances in the banking sector.

There were rises for HSBC and Standard Chartered, but Barclays, Royal Bank of Scotland and Lloyds Banking Group all fell.

A similar trend was seen among mining firms where Rio Tinto and Antofagasta both retreated.

The mixed performance by some mining firms was a continuation from Friday trading, when stocks fell across the commodities sector.ADNFCR-1681-ID-19404471-ADNFCR
