'Growing confidence' in housing market

More people could be set to invest in property in the coming year, as an expert has suggested that confidence is becoming more widespread.

Jane Marr, director at the Little House Company, explained that improved sentiment is prompting thoughts of buying and selling.

She was commenting after a survey by Rightmove indicated that 53 per cent of Britons believe house prices will rise in 2010.

This compared to ten per cent at the same time last year and Ms Marr expects activity to increase as the UK emerges from the recession.

There will be a "levelling or slight reduction in property prices" as more homes become available, she predicted, adding: "This will make houses more affordable and hopefully serve to kick-start the UK housing markets."

And the specialist went on to suggest that employment figures will have an effect on buyers, with optimism being created by the latest Office for National Statistics data showing joblessness dropped for the first time in 18 months.
