The secure cash flow offered by commercial real estate makes it an attractive prospect for investors, it has been suggested.

Head of capital markets at CB Richard Ellis (CBRE) Jonathan Hull explained that many people have turned to the asset class because it represents an "interesting" sector that is complimentary to equities and bonds.

Commercial property is expected to stabilise or recover in the medium term, he added, with private equity already being focused on it to a greater extent as a result.

Mr Hull's comments came after the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors revealed an increase in investor activity in the sector in the fourth quarter of last year, with a global rise of 70 per cent being observed.

"In the latter half of 2009 we saw a huge amount of money coming back towards London because that market had been the quickest and most efficient market to correct," the CBRE expert explained.
