The insurance firm Axa has announced it is lay off 500 of its employees over the next three years in order to make substantial savings.

Axa has set a target of saving £80 million over that period and also wants to improve its service, reports CityWire.co.uk.

Nicolas Moreau, Axa UK group chief executive, commented: "The developments we have outlined signal our intent to improve continually our effectiveness and efficiency to ensure that the business model is well prepared to withstand changing market conditions."

The jobs cuts were announced in the group's interim result, which also revealed a 14 per cent rise in underlying earnings in the six months to June 30th.

In other employment news, fast food outlet McDonalds has launched a recruitment

drive to add 4,000 jobs in its UK outlets, reports the BBC. It also wants to reorientate the negative connotations surrounding the term "McJob".
