The poll by the Trades Union Congress and YouGov found that almost six million people are not happy with what they do for a living while nearly a third of workers do not feel engaged by their employers, reports the Independent.
Two-fifths of those surveyed spoke of increased stress levels at work, while a quarter said they place of employment operated unfair pay structures.
Almost one-third (31 per cent) of respondents said their pay is unequal to that of their colleagues, while 30 per cent complained of poor promotion prospects.
Jan Melnik, a careers coach from the US, told Courant.com: "People just aren't getting a sense of reward and personal accomplishment ... They're being thwarted by circumstances totally outside of their control."
