Graduate recruitment prospects 'hit by credit crunch'
//
Job prospects for recent graduates have been affected by the global credit crunch, a student newspaper has claimed.

According to the Student, those graduating from Scottish universities next year will be entering one of the most difficult periods in recent history.

Online recruitment firm Monster's European employment index found a decline in the number of vacancies open to graduates throughout the UK.

Hugo Sellert, head of economic research at Monster Worldwide, said the "latest Index findings suggest that overall job losses are likely to intensify as the troubled financial and housing industries continue to drag down the wider UK economy".

Meanwhile, David Blanchflower, a member of the Bank of England's monetary policy committee, recently predicted that the number of people out of work in the UK could reach two million by Christmas.
