"Unprecedented changes" in the entertainment sector have affected the level of competition that will be offered in the medium term, which HMV Group is hoping will put it in good stead for the coming months.
Simon Fox, chief executive of the group, said that the company - which includes on its roster the HMV stores and Waterstones, has its peak trading period for the financial year yet to come.
"Our stores and websites are very well prepared for Christmas and we are confident that our customers will receive great service and product availability however they choose to shop," he continued.
The news follows the collapse of high street name Woolworths, which has knock-on effects on HMV's rivals Zavvi and Virgin.
