Time is reportedly running out to save the LDV van factory from closure, stock market traders may be interested to learn.

Joint leader of the Unite trade union Derek Simpson said LDV's owners have a duty to do everything they can to make sure the business keeps operating.

He commented: "What LDV needs urgently is time. Some short-term financial assistance from government will help them buy this time."

Meanwhile, following a meeting with government minister Ian Pearson, company officials said discussion about the long-term future of the business were continuing.

The closure of the plant would result in the loss of thousands of jobs.

In related news, Wrightbus, one of the largest coach and bus builders in the UK has announced it will axe 235 jobs at its Northern Ireland headquarters.

The move comes soon after a £11 million partnership with a Dutch coachbuilder, reports the Guardian newspaper.ADNFCR-1681-ID-19046146-ADNFCR
