The findings of the report may be of interest to those thinking of new ways of earning extra money during this period of belt-tightening and budget-squeezing.
Research by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) has also found that levels of pay are dropping as the number of people seeking work rises significantly.
The organisation's Job Vacancies Index hit a record low of 27.6 last month, down from 27.7 at the start of the year.
Kevin Green, chief executive of the REC, commented: "It is clear that we have not yet hit the bottom of the jobs market."
The REC is the trade body representing the interests of the recruitment industry in the UK.
According to figures from the REC, the industry is worth more than £26 billion.
