The FTSE 100 has declined during the morning session of stock market trading, it has emerged.

Mining firms led the decline, with the index dropping 1.32 per cent - or 53.99 points - to 4,038.81 at 11:22 BST, Bloomberg reports.

Xstrata, Kazakhmys and Eurasian Natural Resources all saw their values fall, with the former sliding 9.58 per cent to 533.5p per share.

Holiday and tourism company Thomas Group also fell to 259.5p after sliding by just over nine per cent.

However, a number of businesses saw their share price increase, with Lloyds Banking Group climbing by over five per cent to 110p per share and BT rising by 2.62 per cent.

Market analyst Joshua Raymond noted that stock market trading has been "somewhat choppy" during the morning session, but added that the index is a lot stronger than those in Europe.

The fall comes despite a slight climb on the Asian markets, with Japan's Nikkei 225 finishing up 0.19 per cent at 8,924.75 points.ADNFCR-1681-ID-19128277-ADNFCR
