The decision will affect employees in its car finance operations and could result in them needing to find alternative ways to earn extra money.
Those based in Speke, Merseyside and Chester could be affected by the workforce reductions, which are to be introduced over the next two years.
According to the BBC, the move has been made after the bank decided the positions are "no longer financially viable".
Spokesperson for trade union Unite Rob MacGregor noted that Lloyds' employees have been living with "almost daily speculation" about their job security "for some months now".
"Today the workforce must face the horrendous reality that integration will mean that some will lose their jobs," he added.
Recent data from the Office for National Statistics has revealed that a further 177,000 employees lost their jobs between December 2008 and February 2009, bringing the unemployment total to 2.1 million.
