Stock market trading sends FTSE upwards

The morning session of stock market trading in London has brought a 1.9 per cent rise on the FTSE 100.

At 12:00 BST the market had climbed 80.08 points to 4,360.94, Reuters reports, with climbing oil prices causing rises of between 1.3 per cent and four per cent among BP, Royal Dutch Shell and BG Group.

Similar gains were made by mining firms, as Anglo American, Rio Tinto, BHP Billiton and Kazakhmys also rose.

However, market strategist Joshua Raymond noted that companies in this sector will need to "gain in strength" if the FTSE is to return to the highs it reached during May.

Shares in Barclays, Lloyds Banking Group, HSBC, Standard Chartered and Royal Bank of Scotland also rose during the morning session.

Mr Raymond noted that the 1.9 per cent surge means the FTSE 100 has now made the "first consecutive days of gains" for a week.ADNFCR-1681-ID-19227536-ADNFCR
