The FTSE 100 has declined during the morning session of stock market trading today (July 16th).

According to Reuters, the index was 0.2 per cent lower at 09:24 BST, shedding 8.35 points to fall to 4338.11.

Energy companies were among those to see their share prices drop, with Royal Dutch Shell, BP, Cairn Energy and BG Group slipping by as much as 0.6 per cent.

Mining firms - including Anglo American, BHP Billiton, Rio Tinto, Kazakhmys and Lonmin - dropped by between 0.9 per cent and 3.3 per cent.

Despite widespread declines, some firms did record a climb during trading, with Vodafone adding 0.6 per cent and British American Tobacco rising by 0.4 per cent.

The decline comes after the FTSE 100 ended trading yesterday on a four-week high of 4,346.46 points.
