Markets 'will see hesitation at start of this week'

At the beginning of this week, European stock markets will be characterised by hesitation among investors, it has been predicted.

According to Joshua Raymond, market strategist at City Index, inflation remains an "underlying concern" among such people and they are waiting to hear of any signs of an exit strategy from quantitative easing by the Fed.

He said: "As a result, there may well be a degree of hesitation in the markets for the start of this week as we run up to this announcement and we have seen elements of this already."

According to the expert, the majority of selling taking place this morning occurred within the miners and the financial stocks, which have both "risen well of late".

He pointed out that mining gained over 20 per cent, while the banks are up by 11 per cent in September alone.

Recently, the FTSE reached 5,100 for the first time in a year, providing increased cause for stock market confidence.
