Over the course of the quarter - which was the first of its financial year - it increased average revenue per customer by £39 year-on-year to £469.
The favourable news prompted its shares to climb and at 14:34 BST the price had risen to 563p - an increase of 0.63 per cent.
BSkyB said the number of people who chose to cancel their services was 11.3 per cent, slightly higher than the 11 per cent that was predicted by analysts at Reuters.
And its new broadband users - which totalled 100,000 - were also slightly lower than had been expected, with experts forecasting a figure of 110,000.
However, Jeremy Darroch commented that the company "has made a good start" to its new financial year.
