Dollar climbs in Forex trading
//
The value of the dollar has surged during Forex trading today (December 21st) on the back of indicators suggesting the US economy is recovering.

At 06:53 GMT, the greenback was priced at $1.4333 (88.81p) against the euro, having finished on $1.4349 in New York at the end of last week, Bloomberg reports.

It is now a close to a three-month high and is valued at 90.48 against the yen, with the Japanese currency declining against the euro on Friday amid suggestions that interest rates are to be maintained close to zero by the Bank of Japan.

Interest in the dollar could be set to rise if there is a "further improvement" in US economic data, said Toshiya Yamauchi, manager of foreign exchange market trading at Ueda Harlow in Tokyo.

"The sustained recovery may enhance views that the Federal Reserve may bring forward an exit from stimulus measures," he added.
