Investors 'turning to commercial property'
//
A commercial property recovery was seen in the last three months of 2009, as investors increasingly turned to the asset class.

That is according to a survey by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, which found that the London office market led the UK.

Worldwide activity was up 70 per cent, with chief economist at the body Simon Rubinsohn noting that emerging markets have seen the most substantial turnarounds.

"Crucially, the improvement in investor appetite is being accompanied by a firmer tone to the rental market," he said. "This is key to ensuring that the recovery proves sustainable."

Relatively high yields and low interest rates in many parts of the world were cited as some of the reasons for the interest in commercial property in the fourth quarter.

Meanwhile, NB Real Estate has observed that office space take-up in the City of London is being sustained by insurance companies, with these firms accounting for 30 per cent of lettings in the final three months of last year.
