Noel Quinn, head of commercial banking for HSBC, said he drew confidence from "the export activity that I saw our customers undertake in the first few months of this year. It's up in volume terms by around 15 per cent year on year".
Recent research from HSBC Commercial Banking found business leaders thought the ability to trade internationally was a quality that has helped bolster British success.
