Stock market traders seek riskier assets

The stock exchange showed signs of confidence yesterday as stock market traders favoured riskier assets.

Trading buoyancy was helped by rallying energy stocks, as the price for crude oil reached its highest level since May, reveals Reuters.

Fears of instability in the eurozone due to national debt were allayed slightly, as stock market traders displayed strong interest in buying up government bonds.

A strong performance from banks also drove gains on the stock exchange as speculators turned towards more circular shares, according to the news agency.

The Royal Bank of Scotland gained the most, up 1.6 per cent, while commodity stocks also helped raise Britain's top share index.

Despite these positive indicators, specialists noted lingering reluctance to invest heavily following uncertainty regarding the eurozone debt.

Colin McLean, managing director at Scottish Value Management, suggested low volumes mean many investors are holding back.

"We'll need positive economic and company news to drive it much higher," he argued.
