Stock exchange gains for British shares

Stock exchange trading on the FTSE 100 strengthened today as miners made gains following a favourable tax deal in Australia.

A weak performance on the American market indicated stock exchange traders were awaiting the announcement of the US jobs report at 13:30 BST today (July 2nd), Reuters reported.

According to observers, an extra day's stock market closure in the States means traders may be unwilling to make bold moves, reveals the news agency.

"Bearing in mind that US markets are closed for a holiday on Monday it could well be a downbeat finish to the week with investors reluctant to open up any new positions ahead of the long weekend," said Anthony Grech, head of research at IG Index.

British recovery may come as a relief to investors, after top shares reached a ten-month closing low yesterday.

The FTSE 100 was up 27.47 points, or 0.6 percent at 4,833.22, at 11:55 BST this morning, with oil companies also boosted by a Dana bid offering.
