Britain's stock market is on course to make gains today (July 21st), as the FTSE 100 index leaps by 1.3 per cent during the morning session.

Reuters reported the "usual triumvirate" of energy stocks, miners and banks led UK top earners higher, as Lloyds Banking Group, the top-performing financial share, added 2.2 per cent to its value.

Barclays also grew 1.5 per cent, despite wavering performances earlier in the week on the back of poor US bank data.

A $7 billion (£4.6 billion) asset sell off by BP helped speculator interest in the oil stocks, with the company up 2.9 per cent, followed by BG Group and Royal Dutch Shell up 1.2 per cent and 1 per cent respectively.

The growth reverses yesterday's trend, which saw the FTSE 100 close down for the fifth day running.

On Monday it fell by 0.2 per cent, or 8.82 points, reported the news agency.
