Stock market tips could point to pharmaceuticals

Stock market tips may indicate pharmaceuticals are a strong buy, as the FTSE 100 index gained 0.3 per cent on the back of drug company AstraZeneca.

Traders observed the value of the group's shares leapt five per cent during this morning's session (July 29th), after strong results and a newly-approved product boosted the company's worth, reveals Reuters.

Defence trading may also be highlighted by stock market tips, as Rolls Royce pushed 2.4 per cent higher after better-than-expected data from the first two-quarters improved its overall forecast for 2010.

Similarly, BAE Systems added 2.3 per cent after it too revealed above-anticipated results from the first half of the year.

The largest European defence contractor, its strong showing was attributed to the growth of support and service activities by the Wall Street Journal.

And expansion is expected to continue despite reduced spending by some of the company's largest customers.

Top performance from AstraZeneca also boosted its competitors, with GlaxoSmithKline and Shire both trading higher by 0.5 per cent.
