The share expert observes more than 30 property funds and 50 absolute return funds have been launched over the last three years.
And free stock market training could benefit individuals hoping to profit from the less well-known asset vehicles.
He comments: "These investments are fast becoming 'mainstream' and [people] will be missing a trick if they do not consider seriously the complete range of funds now available."
Defaqto also carries out research on speculation tools such as exchange traded funds and open-ended investment companies, as well as offering advice on bonds and child trust funds.
