Stock exchange news: FTSE 100 unchanged

Stock market traders have seen the FTSE 100 start the day (September 15th) steady.

There were little changes to the index at 5,567.31 after it had moved to its highest level since the end of April on Tuesday, Reuters reports.

And despite a surge in the Nikkei following Japan's intervention in an attempt to diminish the yen, a London-based trader said it did not affect much in the UK.

He added: "The market has had a very good run over the last few weeks and [investors] are looking for a point to take some profits off."

But, positive news came from advertising company WPP which increased more than two per cent, although the biggest gainer was Next, which was up by more than three per cent.

This news comes after the FTSE 100 started yesterday flat - down 2.05 points at 5563.48 - in anticipation of British inflation data.
