Stock exchange news: FTSE 100 increases by 0.8%

The FTSE 100 been boosted today after increases of 0.8 per cent this morning (October 21st).

According to Reuters, the leading index on the British stock exchange rose by 45.43 points to 5,774.36 after a 0.4 per cent hike yesterday, meaning it is up by ten per cent since the beginning of September.

The news provider noted that there was confidence in the markets from the US and European earnings.

What's more, miners carried on their morning gains with Anglo American leading the way after a rise of 2.5 per cent following the release of its third-quarter earnings and Rio Tinto went up by 1.9 per cent.

Other positives came from Beverage maker Diageo, which added 3.5 per cent, following a ten per cent increase from French peer Pernod Ricard, which revealed a ten per cent boost in underlying sales in the last quarter.

Earlier today, British Airways was also on the up with a rise of 3.9 per cent.
