According to Bloomberg, the leading index on the British stock exchange drop by 24.69 to reach 6,068.55 as of 14:04 GMT, meaning it has now advanced by 2.8 per cent this year.
It was a good day for ARM Holdings - which moved up by 6.8 per cent to 503.5 pence - after Windows revealed it is set to launch the next version of its self-titled operating system on the Cambridge-based organisation's chip designs.
But there was bad news for computer company Antofagasta as it fell by 1.4 per cent to 1,564 pence due to being downgraded to a "sell" rating, while McBride shed 5.8 per cent to 173.2 pence.
This comes after the FTSE 100 index decreased by 0.1 per cent earlier this week following negative results for Royal Dutch Shell, which lost 1.8 per cent.
