FTSE 100 down less than 0.1% as Barclays falls

Barclays fell by 1.3 per cent this afternoon (January 17th) as the FTSE 100 was also down slightly.

According to Bloomberg, the leading index on the British stock exchange shed less than 0.1 per cent to stand at 6,002.03 by 13:27 GMT.

What's more, as well as Barclays there were other negative results for banks, such as a 2.4 per cent drop by the Lloyds Banking Group to 67.95 pence.

In addition to this, Allied Irish Banks decreased by 5.3 per cent, meaning it has now shed 81 per cent in the last 12 months.

But there was positive news for BP, the second biggest oil company in Europe, which rose by 1.5 per cent to 506.90 pence.

This comes after the FTSE 100 decreased by 0.4 per cent on Thursday after two consecutive days of growth.

Among the companies to fall were Tesco, which was down by 3.5 per cent.
