The FTSE 100 has increased by 0.6 per cent today (February 2nd), those who trade on the stock exchange might be interested to note.

According to Bloomberg, the index put on 35.90 points as it rose to 5,993.72 by 13:22 GMT, extending its gains after yesterday's 1.6 per cent rally.

One of the biggest advancements on the day was for Imperial Tobacco, the company that makes West and Davidoff cigarettes, as it rose by 4.7 per cent when the organisation announced it would pay more in dividends following higher sale figures.

It made its biggest gains since November 2009 as it rose to 1,878 pence, while its sales were up by five per cent in the final quarter of 2010.

This comes after the FTSE 100 had increased by around one per cent at midday yesterday when the Egyptian situation ebbed slightly, Reuters reports.

In the two days previously, the index shed 1.7 per cent.
