According to Bloomberg, the leading index on the British stock exchange had advanced to 6,060.2 by 08:55 GMT, meaning it has now put on 2.7 per cent this year.
One of the highlights of the morning so far comes from Barclays, which increased by 2.8 per cent to 319.3 pence after it announced its net income was £3.56 billion in 2010, bettering the average analyst estimate of £3.2 billion.
What's more, there was positive news for Premier Foods, which makes Hovis bread, after an increase of 4.7 per cent to 23.1 pence following an announcement its full-year trading profit surged by 0.6 per cent to £311 million.
This comes after the FTSE 100 index made a similar gain of less than 0.1 per cent on Friday afternoon as it moved up to 6,021.05.
