The FTSE 100 has fallen by 0.1 per cent this afternoon (February 22nd), it has been reported.

Known as the largest index on the British stock exchange, it shed 59.44 points to move to 5,955.36 at 12:12 GMT.

It was a bad day for the majority of firms involved in the index as for every one that recorded positive results, nine fell.

This included banks as HSBC Holdings decreased by 1.6 per cent to stand at 693.5 pence, while Barclays went down by 1.1 per cent to 318.8 pence and the Lloyds Banking Group also suffered as it retreated by one per cent to 65.9 pence.

What's more, BAE Systems plummeted 5.5 per cent to 322.6 pence.

This comes after the FTSE 100 decreased by 0.4 per cent yesterday morning after it shed 22.75 points to move down to 6,060.24.

And Bloomberg pointed out this drop may have been partly due to unrest in Libya.
