The FTSE 100 has increased by 0.5 per cent this afternoon (March 7th), those who trade on the stock exchange might be keen to note.

According to Bloomberg, the index surged by 26.93 points to 6,017.32 by 13:12 GMT in London.

This came after Intertek climbed by six per cent to 2,012 pence after the company revealed it had acquired Moody International from Investcorp Bank BSC.

But there was bad news for Inmarsat, which plummeted by ten per cent to 614 pence after it announced lower sales than it had previously predicted.

The firm - which provides satellite services to the maritime industry - claimed it suffered from sailors opting for email rather than using phones to communicate while at sea.

Today's FTSE 100 rise comes after the index advanced by 0.4 per cent on Friday afternoon, meaning it was among 13 out of the 18 in Europe to record positive results.
