This is the view of The Share Centre's investment advisor Nick Raynor, who pointed out that global firms can be useful when certain geographic areas are experiencing periods of uncertainty.
The current economic climate is far from stable in many nations across the world, making the tip particularly relevant.
Mr Raynor made his comments after recommending investment in a group of companies, including Marston's and ITV, which benefit from wholly English exposure.
"These are all strong stocks from our buy list. However, investors should note that some international exposure can be beneficial to a portfolio," he said.
Greggs, the Stobart Group, Howden Joinery and Northumbrian Water were the other organisations selected by The Share Centre representative.
This week, the company selected Photo-Me-International as its stock pick of the week, with Mr Raynor suggesting it should appeal to medium-term investors.
