Component designer ARM Holdings and software company Autonomy posted respective increases of 2.2 per cent and 1.6 per cent, helped by upbeat broker forecasts and strong financial results.
ARM, which produces components used by Apple in its iPhone device, saw its stocks rise to 617 pence.
Elsewhere, BP gained 0.8 per cent ahead of this week's quarterly earnings report.
However, overall trade was thin due to the bank holiday and similar conditions are expected over the next few days, as the royal wedding holiday will shorten the trading week once more.
"A lot of people are still on holiday, so I think volumes will remain quite light," a London-based trader at a European investment bank told Reuters.
The FTSE 100 index returned from the Easter break with a gain of 23 points, or 0.4 per cent, taking it to 6,041.61.
