This is the view of Adrian Lowcock, senior investment advisor at Bestinvest, who suggested agriculture and water could feature more prominently over the next decade or so.
He said: "Water is going to be a big theme, because with the growing population size, water is going to become a valuable commodity itself."
Mr Lowcock pointed out that China's fresh water supply is very low compared to its population size, while the world's resources in general are set to be stretched, which will place greater importance on agricultural issues.
