Petrofac leads declines for FTSE 100

The FTSE 100 index fell in stock market trading on Thursday (July 14th), with Petrofac leading the decline.

According to MarketWatch, the provider of integrated services to the oil, gas and energy production industry saw its shares drop by 3.3 per cent, making it the biggest faller on the FTSE 100.

This comes despite Petrofac announcing earlier this week that its Offshore Engineering and Operations business has been awarded a contract renewal by Marathon Oil for its assets in the North Sea.

Petrofac, which has been working with Marathon since 2005, said the base scope of the agreement is valued at £36 million, excluding the value of any projects that may be developed in the future.

The majority of heavyweight commodity and financial stocks also fell during Thursday's trading, with HSBC declining 1.2 per cent and Royal Dutch Shell slipping by 1.4 per cent.

Associated British Foods was the biggest climber on the index, rising by 2.7 per cent.
