Vice premier Wang Quishan was speaking at a Sino-American meeting in the south-western Chinese city of Chengdu, where he emphasised the fact that the global market is facing "a very serious" problem and the necessity of avoiding trade disputes between the two countries.
"As major world economies, China and the United States would make a positive contribution to the world through their own steady development," he said.
The US-Chinese joint committee on commerce and trade meets twice a year and is intended to defuse trade tensions between the two superpowers.
Last week (November 16th), Reuters reported that shares in Hong Kong had fallen as Chinese investors and property developers became nervous about potentially risky assets. The Shanghai Composite Index dropped 2.48 per cent to 2,466.96, its biggest loss in two months.
